RTA Expands Exit 55 on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Boosts Traffic Capacity

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed significant traffic improvements on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, including the expansion of Exit 55 leading to Rabat Street.

The project, spanning 600 metres, involved increasing the traffic overlap distance and adding a new lane, bringing the total number of lanes to three. This initiative is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to enhance the capacity of the road network and improve traffic safety in Dubai, in line with the emirate's urban development and population growth.

The importance of the surface expansion on Exit 55 is highlighted by its direct impact on traffic safety and capacity. The expansion increases the capacity of the exit from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Rabat Street from 3,000 vehicles per hour to 4,500 vehicles per hour, a 50% increase. Additionally, it reduces travel time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Rabat Street towards Business Bay Crossing from 10 minutes to 4 minutes, a 60% reduction.

This traffic improvement on the exit from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Rabat Street is part of RTA’s 2024 improvement projects, covering 45 locations across Dubai. These enhancements support Dubai’s sustainable growth and contribute to the happiness and well-being of its residents, aligning with the goal of making Dubai the best city to live in.

RTA remains committed to the continuous development and improvement of Dubai’s Road network, regularly updating traffic solutions. Roads targeted for traffic improvements are identified based on four main criteria: traffic studies, control centres, public suggestions, and field observations by RTA teams.

The RTA's comprehensive approach ensures that the most critical areas are addressed promptly, enhancing overall traffic management and safety. By focusing on these criteria, RTA can effectively identify and implement necessary improvements, supporting Dubai’s rapid development and ensuring a smooth and safe driving experience for all residents and visitors.
