Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), in coordination with Dubai Police General HQ, announced the expansion of the Traffic Incident Management Unit project.

By the end of 2024, four additional main road corridors will be integrated into the project, which will increase the coverage from 13 to 17 traffic corridors and streets. The expansion extends the total road covered by the Unit to 951 km in both directions.

This step complements RTA's ongoing efforts to achieve a set of targets aiming to minimise secondary accidents, enhance traffic flow, and expedite the clearance of vehicles involved in accidents in line with the top global practices.

Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), highlighted the success of the Traffic Incident Management project, a collaborative effort with Dubai Police. The project aims to swiftly address vehicle breakdowns, manage accident scenes, and restore traffic flow. It covers implementing temporary diversions and providing support during events. Recently expanded to include six additional corridors, it now encompasses 13 key routes, with plans for four more by year-end. This initiative has notably reduced traffic incidents, injuries, and fatalities while improving travel time, achieving a response rate of 6 minutes and a clearance time of 8 minutes for incidents.

Strategic Partnership

Lieutenant General Abdullah Khalifa Al Marri, Commander-in-Chief of Dubai Police, emphasized the strategic partnership between Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in expanding the Traffic Incident Management Unit project. Since its inception in 2018, Dubai Police have conducted investigations, enforced traffic laws, and provided legal assistance. The project aims to shorten clearance times, reduce congestion, and minimize secondary incidents. Cooperation with Emirates Auction has facilitated the removal of damaged vehicles, with 15,538 vehicles removed over two years. The initiative aligns with Dubai's future vision, emphasizing safety, stability, and development. Al Marri praised the collaboration's role in enhancing traffic safety and enforcement measures, contributing to Dubai's development goals.
