Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated the upgraded Old Dubai Souq and Al Sabkha marine transport stations, marking a major step in enhancing the emirate’s marine mobility network along Dubai Creek.
The new facilities are part of the RTA’s Marine Transport Strategic Plan 2020–2030, which aims to strengthen marine transport as a vital mode of travel in the city. Marine transport services recorded 9.7 million users in the first half of 2025, highlighting the growing demand for abra and ferry travel.
Upgrades at the stations include shaded waiting areas expanded by 50 percent, new retail and investment spaces, and amenities designed to meet Dubai’s Code for People of Determination. Eco-friendly materials and improved lighting were also introduced to support sustainability goals.
To improve operator welfare, the RTA added an air-conditioned rest area for abra crews, ensuring greater comfort and efficiency. Both stations were developed simultaneously to fast-track delivery, optimise resources, and maintain smooth operations during the transition.
The inauguration underscores RTA’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage while modernising infrastructure to meet Dubai’s evolving transport needs.
