Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has launched 13 strategic research projects during its Research and Development Forum, bringing together 80 experts from 30 universities and research institutions across the UAE.

The event highlighted the authority’s commitment to advancing innovation and future technologies.

Organised by the Innovation and Pioneering Department at the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector, the Forum featured participants from leading institutions including Dubai Future Foundation, Khalifa University, University of Sharjah, UAE University, University of Dubai, and international partners such as the University of Birmingham and Rochester Institute of Technology – Dubai.

Muna Al Osaimi, CEO of the Strategy and Corporate Governance Sector at RTA, said research and development extend beyond ideas to creating practical impact. She emphasised the importance of unified frameworks and collaboration to transform research into solutions that strengthen Dubai’s global technological leadership.

RTA has developed a portfolio of 137 intellectual assets, including trademarks, patents, and industrial designs, supporting its vision to leverage artificial intelligence, enhance workforce competencies, and expand multi-sector research partnerships. The Forum also featured a session on “The University–Industry–Government Triangle”, highlighting new models for research collaboration to accelerate applied innovation in areas such as quantum communication, autonomous mobility, and sustainable infrastructure.

Experts at the Forum underlined that effective collaboration, clear communication, and strict adherence to timelines are essential for successful research outcomes. Strengthening partnerships between academia and industry was highlighted as a key driver of Dubai’s innovation agenda, ensuring integration and avoiding duplication of efforts.

The R&D Forum is open for research paper submissions until 14 November, with student submissions accepted until 15 December. Interested stakeholders and academic institutions can obtain details by contacting RnD@rta.ae.
