Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled 15 new air-conditioned rest areas for delivery bike riders at key bus and metro stations, offering relief during the UAE’s midday work ban.

The move is part of wider efforts to improve road safety, worker wellbeing, and service quality in the fast-growing delivery sector.

The midday work ban, in effect daily from 12:30 PM to 3:00 PM until 15 September, prohibits outdoor work under direct sunlight. The new shelters are designed to provide riders with comfort, protection, and essential amenities during these hours.

Located at strategic transport hubs across the city, the temporary shelters complement RTA’s existing network of 40 permanent rest areas. Each facility is equipped with water dispensers, mobile charging stations, and shaded motorbike parking. The exterior design reduces sun exposure while maintaining visibility and insulation.

In partnership with Deliveroo and the UAE Food Bank, the initiative will also distribute 7,500 free hot meals to delivery riders, recognising their vital role in serving Dubai’s growing demand for doorstep services. The food drive also aims to reduce waste by redistributing surplus meals.

RTA emphasised that these efforts reflect a broader strategy to support delivery riders, regulate the sector, and promote sustainability through collaboration with private and humanitarian partners.
