Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a groundbreaking Bus Pooling initiative, allowing passengers to share minibus rides via a smart app-based booking system.
This initiative, developed in collaboration with three specialized public transport companies, aims to provide a fast, convenient, and innovative transportation solution for residents and visitors.
Ahmed Hashim Bahrozyan, CEO of RTA’s Public Transport Agency, emphasized the significance of this initiative, stating,
“It aims to attract new segments of the community by offering a fast and convenient transport option that reduces reliance on private vehicles. It will also contribute to smoother traffic flow across Dubai’s roads.”
Unlike traditional buses, the service operates without fixed routes. Initially, it will be available in Deira, connecting key areas such as Business Bay, Dubai Mall, Mirdif, and Dubai Festival City. Plans are in place to gradually expand the service across the emirate.
Minibuses, with seating capacities ranging from 13 to 30 passengers, will operate on-demand, offering variable fares based on distance and demand. Passengers can book trips through smart apps – Citylink Shuttle, DrivenBus, and Fluxx Daily – managed by three companies, each overseeing 20 minibuses. Options include single trips or weekly and monthly subscriptions.
This initiative aligns with RTA’s strategic goals of integrating innovative mobility and promoting sustainable transportation. By relying on advanced technologies, it provides a cost-effective, on-demand solution that reduces traffic congestion and encourages the use of licensed transport services over unlicensed alternatives.
“This project reflects global public transportation trends, offering flexible and user-friendly services,”
added Bahrozyan.
“Commuters can pre-book seats and enjoy flexible journeys with a predefined schedule.”
The Bus Pooling initiative underscores RTA’s commitment to enhancing Dubai’s public transport network while meeting the evolving needs of its community.
