Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has unveiled a major urban development project to upgrade Umm Suqeim Street, aiming to ease traffic congestion and improve connectivity between key areas across the city.

The project spans from the intersection of Jumeirah Street to Al Khail Road and forms part of a broader master plan to develop the Umm Suqeim–Al Qudra corridor. Once fully complete, the 20-kilometre corridor will allow uninterrupted traffic movement from Jumeirah to Al Qudra Road.

Designed to serve more than two million residents, the upgrade will boost Umm Suqeim Street’s capacity to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions, cutting travel time between Jumeirah Street and Al Khail Road from 20 minutes to just six.

In addition to road improvements, the project will include pedestrian walkways, a cycling track, and vibrant public spaces to encourage community interaction. It also enhances metro connectivity, linking Mall of the Emirates Metro Station with surrounding residential neighbourhoods through integrated transport access.

Six key intersections—Jumeirah Street, Al Wasl Street, Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road—will be upgraded. This includes the construction of four bridges and three tunnels stretching a total of 4,100 metres.

Current works on a 4.6-kilometre section between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road are over 70% complete, with an opening set for Q3 this year. The RTA has also begun work on Al Qudra Road upgrades, including new bridges and expanded roadways, expected to reduce travel times by over 70%.

The initiative supports Dubai’s urban expansion, aiming to enhance quality of life and mobility across residential and development zones.
