Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has launched a pilot public Robotaxi service on the Uber app, marking a significant step in the emirate’s push toward autonomous mobility.

The rollout, powered by WeRide’s autonomous driving technology, is part of Dubai’s Self-Driving Transport Strategy.

The service is available starting today in Umm Suqeim and Jumeirah. Riders can book a WeRide Robotaxi directly through the Uber app by selecting the Autonomous option. The vehicles currently operate with a specialist driver on board to ensure safety during the transition phase.

RTA’s Public Transport Agency CEO Ahmed Bahrozyan said the launch follows months of joint testing with WeRide, which began after their partnership announcement in April 2025. He noted that the pilot prepares the groundwork for a fully driverless service expected in early 2026.

WeRide’s Chief Financial Officer and Head of International Jennifer Li said the company’s progress in Dubai reflects the strength of its globally validated technology. She added that WeRide aims to deploy tens of thousands of Robotaxis by 2030 and values collaboration with regulators and partners committed to advancing autonomous mobility.

Uber’s Global Head of Autonomous Sarfraz Maredia highlighted Dubai’s rapid adoption of autonomous technology and said the initiative supports the emirate’s goal of achieving 25 percent autonomous journeys by 2030.

The pilot underscores Dubai’s leadership in smart mobility as population growth and rising demand for shared transport drive the need for innovative solutions. In 2024, the city recorded more than 153 million trips across public transport, taxis, and shared mobility, with app-based services showing a 28 percent year-on-year increase.
