Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has begun implementing a series of rapid traffic solutions across eight strategic locations in the emirate, marking a major step in its 2026 plan to improve road efficiency, ease congestion, and enhance safety amid continued urban expansion and rising vehicle numbers.

The initiative forms part of a wider programme comprising more than 45 traffic enhancement projects designed to strengthen mobility across Dubai’s growing road network. The measures target high-traffic corridors and critical junctions where increasing population density and vehicle usage have placed pressure on existing infrastructure.

The works cover several major areas, including Emirates Road heading from Sharjah towards Wadi Al Amardi Street, Umm Amara Street connecting Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Wasl Street, Jebel Ali–Lehbab Street, and the zone between Sama Al Jaddaf and Al Jaddaf Waterfront near Al Jaddaf Metro Station. Additional upgrades are underway on Al Na'ayat Street in Al Barsha 1, near Al Maktoum School in Al Satwa, at the intersection of Al Ittihad Street and Al Quds Street, and along Sheikh Rashid Street near Grand Hyatt Dubai towards Bur Dubai.

According to RTA, the projects are expected to reduce congestion and cut journey times by 15 to 30 percent once completed, improving daily commuting experiences and operational efficiency across key routes.

Planned improvements include widening selected roads from one lane to two, converting roundabouts into signalised intersections, creating new road links between main arteries and nearby residential and commercial districts, and introducing at-grade infrastructure upgrades. Additional parking near schools and essential facilities will also be provided alongside enhanced road safety measures.

The authority stated that project selection is guided by continuous monitoring, traffic studies, real-time data from control centres, and on-site inspections, ensuring targeted interventions that address congestion hotspots and improve peak-hour traffic flow across the emirate.
