Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has opened a major two-lane bridge spanning 1,000 metres, connecting Hessa Street to Al Khail Road. This new infrastructure reduces travel time between the two roads from 15 minutes to just 3 minutes, significantly enhancing traffic flow to Dubai’s city centre and Dubai International Airport.

The bridge is part of the broader Hessa Street Development Project, which aims to upgrade four major intersections, expand Hessa Street from two to four lanes in each direction, and accommodate up to 16,000 vehicles per hour. Currently, 54% of the AED 689 million project is complete, with all intersections expected to be operational by Q4 2025.

Key components of the project include:

  • Intersection Upgrades: Enhancements at Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road to improve traffic flow and connectivity.
  • Cycling Infrastructure: A 13.5 km cycling and e-scooter track connecting Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills, with two architecturally distinctive bridges for cyclists and pedestrians crossing Sheikh Zayed Road and Al Khail Road.

The project supports the growing population in residential areas like Al Barsha and Jumeirah Village Circle, which are expected to house over 640,000 residents by 2030. It also aims to promote sustainable mobility and enhance first- and last-mile connectivity by linking key metro stations and service hubs.

These developments reflect Dubai’s commitment to advancing infrastructure to meet urban growth demands, ensuring seamless mobility, and fostering sustainable urban living.
