RTA Opens Two Major Bridges on Al Khail Road
Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inaugurated two new major bridges on Al Khail Road, marking a significant milestone in the ongoing Al Khail Road Development Project.
The newly completed bridges at Zaa’beel and Al Quoz 1 span a total of 1,350 metres, designed to handle approximately 8,000 vehicles per hour combined.
The Al Khail Road Development Project, which has now achieved an 80% completion rate, involves the construction of 3,300 metres of new bridges and the widening of 6,820 metres of roadways. This extensive project spans seven key areas: Al Jaddaf, Business Bay, Zaa’beel, Meydan, Al Quoz 1, Ghadir Al Tair, and Jumeirah Village Circle. The initiative aims to reduce travel time by 30%, enhance intersection capacities by 19,600 vehicles per hour, and streamline traffic flow across Al Khail Road.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors at RTA, emphasized that the project aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, to bolster the road network infrastructure and support Dubai’s growth. He also highlighted that the project is crucial for improving traffic flow and addressing urban development needs.
The newly opened Zaa’beel bridge, extending 700 metres, facilitates traffic from Zaa’beel Palace Street and Oud Metha Street towards Jebel Ali, with a capacity of 4,800 vehicles per hour. The Al Quoz 1 bridge, spanning 650 metres, connects traffic from Al Meydan Street to Al Khail Road, supporting 3,200 vehicles per hour.
The development includes multiple sites with additional improvements. For instance, Site 1 at Al Jaddaf features a new three-lane bridge and expanded road sections to better connect with Financial Centre Street. Similarly, other sites across Al Khail Road are undergoing significant upgrades to enhance overall traffic efficiency.
The RTA’s ongoing efforts are set to continue, with three more bridges scheduled to open by the end of October, further enhancing connectivity and traffic management across Dubai.
