Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has opened Phase I of the Hessa Street Development Project, delivering a major upgrade to one of the city’s key east west corridors and easing traffic movement between Al Khail Road and Sheikh Zayed Road.

The newly opened section stretches 4.5 kilometres from Al Khail Road to Sheikh Zayed Road and includes widened carriageways and new bridges at key intersections. Hessa Street has been expanded to four lanes in each direction, significantly improving traffic flow for motorists travelling towards Sheikh Zayed Road and surrounding districts.

According to the RTA, overall project completion has reached 90 percent. Remaining works, including additional road improvements, bridges, upgraded intersections, and cycling infrastructure, are scheduled for completion in the second quarter of this year.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, said the AED 690 million project aligns with Dubai’s long term urban growth strategy and supports rising population and mobility demands. The development serves residential and mixed use areas such as Al Sufouh 2, Al Barsha, and Jumeirah Village Circle, which are expected to house more than 640,000 residents by 2030.

Once fully completed, the project will double traffic capacity on Hessa Street from 8,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions. It also includes 13.5 kilometres of dedicated cycling and e scooter tracks linking Al Sufouh and Dubai Hills, with direct connections to Dubai Internet City Metro Station.

The project features upgrades to four major intersections, including Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Street, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road, strengthening connectivity across Dubai’s expanding road network.
