Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has opened a key second-level bridge at the World Trade Centre Roundabout, marking a major milestone in one of the city’s most strategic road infrastructure upgrades aimed at easing congestion and significantly reducing travel times across central Dubai.
The newly inaugurated 1,000-metre bridge features two lanes with a capacity of 3,000 vehicles per hour. It serves traffic moving from Sheikh Zayed Road to Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Street toward Al Karama and Deira, cutting journey times from six minutes to just one minute while improving overall traffic flow around the busy intersection.
His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority, described the World Trade Centre Roundabout Development Project as a critical upgrade linking Sheikh Zayed Road with five major arterial corridors, including Sheikh Rashid Street, 2nd December Street, Zabeel Palace Street and Al Majlis Street. He noted that construction progress has exceeded 60 percent, with three bridges already open and two additional bridges scheduled for completion in October.

Once fully completed, the project is expected to reduce average delays at the intersection from 12 minutes to 90 seconds while enabling uninterrupted traffic movement across key routes. The development will also introduce free-flow connections between several major corridors, improving accessibility to commercial and residential districts.
The wider project includes five bridges spanning a combined 5,000 metres and the conversion of the existing roundabout into a signalised at-grade intersection to enhance operational efficiency.
Serving more than half a million residents and visitors, the upgrade improves connectivity to major destinations including Dubai World Trade Centre and Dubai International Financial Centre, while benefiting surrounding communities such as Zabeel, Al Satwa, Al Karama and Al Jafiliya.
