Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) celebrated a significant milestone on Sunday, September 15, with the opening of two major bridges as part of the Garn Al Sabkha-Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road Intersection Improvement Project.

The first bridge, a 2-lane structure stretching 601 meters, is designed to handle 3,200 vehicles per hour. It facilitates eastward traffic from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, extending north towards Al Qusais and Deira. The second bridge, also with two lanes and spanning 664 meters, will ease traffic flow by eliminating conflicts from vehicles traveling south on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road towards Al Yalayis Street and Jebel Ali Port. This bridge is similarly capable of accommodating 3,200 vehicles per hour.

The project, nearing completion with a 97% progress rate, will be fully operational by October with the opening of a final bridge. This bridge, connecting Garn Al Sabkha Street with Al Asayel Street, spans 943 meters and features two lanes in each direction, supporting 8,000 vehicles per hour. It aims to enhance connectivity between Sheikh Zayed Road and Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road.

His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, RTA Director General and Chairman, highlighted the project's importance in meeting the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and ensuring the development of Dubai's road infrastructure. The project, which includes the construction of four bridges totaling 2,874 meters, will significantly reduce travel times—cutting the journey from Garn Al Sabkha Street to Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road by 40% and travel time to Jebel Ali Port by 70%.

Part of RTA’s broader master plan, the project supports strategic east-west traffic corridors and aligns with Dubai's ongoing urban and mobility developments.
