Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to complete a key traffic upgrade at the Dubai Healthcare City exit (Street 13) by 20 July 2025, aiming to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion for vehicles accessing Sheikh Zayed Road via Oud Metha and Sheikh Rashid Road.
The upgrade involves transforming the existing stop-controlled exit into a free-flowing route. This will be achieved through the addition of a new acceleration lane and widening the service road from one lane to two lanes across a 500-metre stretch. The improvements will accommodate higher traffic volumes, particularly vehicles coming from Al Riyadh Street.
This initiative is part of RTA’s broader strategy to enhance mobility, road safety, and traffic efficiency across Dubai. The Dubai Healthcare City and Oud Metha corridor is a key urban zone that houses medical centres, hospitals, residential communities, educational institutions, and businesses, making smooth traffic essential for both daily commutes and emergency accessibility.
With these enhancements, traffic capacity at the exit will double to 3,000 vehicles per hour, and average waiting times are expected to drop by 50%, significantly easing congestion during peak hours.
RTA has already implemented complementary improvements in nearby areas, such as enhancing entry and exit points between Umm Hurair and Oud Metha, adding deceleration and acceleration lanes, and expanding the service road exit to Umm Hurair Road from two to three lanes. These previous changes resulted in a 50% increase in capacity and a 40% reduction in congestion during rush hour.
This latest project reflects RTA’s long-term commitment to upgrading Dubai’s infrastructure to support its smart city and sustainability goals, ensuring safe, efficient, and seamless travel for residents and visitors alike.
