Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority transported more than 2.8 million passengers during New Year’s Eve 2026 celebrations, recording a ridership increase of over 13 percent compared to the previous year and underscoring the city’s capacity to manage large-scale events efficiently.
The surge in passenger numbers was delivered through a comprehensive traffic and operational plan implemented across the emirate. The plan included regulated traffic movement, temporary road closures, and real-time coordination with the Dubai Event Security Committee, relevant government entities, and strategic partners.
According to RTA, the total number of users across public transport, taxis, e-hailing services, marine transport, and shared mobility reached 2,836,859 passengers, up from 2,502,474 recorded during New Year’s Eve 2025.
Dubai Metro services on the Red and Green Lines accounted for the largest share, transporting 1,249,636 passengers. Dubai Tram services carried 58,052 passengers, while public buses and bus-on-demand services recorded 503,264 riders throughout the night.
Taxi services transported 661,538 passengers, reflecting strong demand for point-to-point travel during peak celebration hours. Marine transport services carried 76,745 passengers across all modes, supporting movement along key waterfront locations. E-hailing platforms recorded 286,135 passengers, while shared mobility services served 1,489 users.
RTA stated that the approved operational plan ensured smooth and safe access to major celebration sites while maintaining public safety and traffic efficiency. The authority added that the results highlight the resilience and readiness of Dubai’s transport network and reinforce the city’s standing as a global destination capable of delivering major events in line with international standards.
