The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) of Dubai announced the successful completion of upgrading eight marine transport stations in 2024, aligning them with the Dubai Universal Design Code for an Accessible Environment for People of Determination.

This initiative reinforces Dubai’s vision of becoming a city that is inclusive and friendly to all residents and visitors, particularly People of Determination.

The project focused on ensuring seamless mobility and comprehensive accessibility across marine transport facilities. Khalaf Belghuzooz Al Zarooni, Director of Marine Transport at the RTA’s Public Transport Agency, stated,

“We upgraded the infrastructure at marine transport stations to enhance accessibility, safety, and convenience for People of Determination and the wider community.”

The enhancements included improved connectivity between facilities, docks, and open spaces, ensuring independent and secure mobility. Infrastructure upgrades featured improved lighting for nighttime navigation, the installation of handrails and handgrips, and enhanced flooring with clear safety markings. Additionally, audio systems, such as loudspeakers, were introduced to assist individuals with hearing challenges by providing clear and direct schedule information.

The RTA’s commitment to accessibility aligns with the Dubai Government’s broader goal of making the city inclusive for People of Determination. By adhering to the Dubai Code for marine transport stations, this initiative represents a significant step toward creating a universally accessible and user-friendly transport network.
