Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has completed a road widening project on Sheikh Zayed Road, expanding a 700-metre stretch near the Umm Al Sheif Street exit from six to seven lanes.

The upgrade increases capacity by 16 percent, enabling the highway to accommodate up to 14,000 vehicles per hour.

The initiative is part of RTA’s ongoing strategy to improve road efficiency and ease congestion across the city. By eliminating overlap points at the Umm Al Sheif junction, a frequent bottleneck during evening peak hours, the project is expected to cut travel time and enhance safety for motorists.

Sheikh Zayed Road is one of Dubai’s busiest and most vital corridors, connecting major residential communities with key commercial and financial hubs such as Dubai International Financial Centre, Burj Khalifa, and Dubai Mall. The upgrade ensures smoother mobility on a route that supports both daily commutes and the city’s wider economic activity.
