Saudi Arabia has emerged as the top performer in international tourism growth among G20 countries for the first seven months of 2024, according to the latest data from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO).

The Kingdom recorded an impressive 73% increase in international tourists and a remarkable 207% growth in tourism revenues compared to the same period in 2019, as highlighted in the UNWTO’s September 2024 World Tourism Barometer report.

During this period, Saudi Arabia welcomed approximately 17.5 million international visitors, underscoring its increasing appeal as a global tourism hotspot. In 2023, the country saw 27.4 million visitors, marking a 56% rise in international tourism numbers compared to 2019. This strong performance positioned Saudi Arabia as the top-ranking nation on the UN list for tourism growth among major destinations in 2023. Additionally, the tourism sector's historic travel surplus of SR48 billion in 2023 reflected a 38% year-on-year increase.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF), in its 2024 Article IV Consultation report, praised Saudi Arabia’s exceptional progress in the tourism sector, which plays a critical role in the broader goals of Vision 2030. The IMF emphasized tourism’s contribution to diversifying the Kingdom’s economy, particularly within the services sector, where it has become a key driver of growth. The sector has excelled in attracting visitors, increasing spending, creating jobs, and boosting GDP contributions.

These achievements highlight Saudi Arabia's rapid ascent as a premier global tourist destination, with continuous growth in visitor numbers reflecting international confidence in the country’s diverse and vibrant tourism offerings.
