Schneider Electric has expanded its partnership with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) under the Utilities for Net Zero Alliance (UNEZA) to bolster capacity building for utility companies in the Global South.
Announced at the World Government Summit in Dubai, this collaboration aims to empower utilities by enhancing digital learning and promoting the adoption of renewable energy solutions.
The agreement, signed by Amel Chadli, President of Gulf Countries at Schneider Electric, and Francesco La Camera, Director-General of IRENA, will see the launch of a digital platform offering accessible e-learning resources for utilities in developing regions. The platform will serve as a tool for advancing the global transition to renewable energy, contributing to a more sustainable and inclusive future.
Key initiatives will include workshops, seminars, and multi-stakeholder discussions, focusing on knowledge sharing and raising awareness about energy transition. The partnership aligns with the UAE's vision for a diversified, sustainable economy and supports the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Amel Chadli emphasized,
“Our collaboration with IRENA enables us to drive impact, leverage digital innovation, and empower utilities in the Global South to accelerate renewable energy adoption.”
Francesco La Camera added,
“This partnership will help integrate renewables more effectively, ensuring clean, affordable, and resilient power to communities.”
Launched at COP28 in 2023, UNEZA unites global industry leaders and regional utilities, aiming to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030 and accelerate the transition to a net-zero future by 2050. This expanded collaboration marks a significant step in addressing global energy access and supporting the worldwide shift toward renewables.
