Telecommunications and Digital Government Regulatory Authority (TDRA) has unveiled an extensive strategy to spearhead research and studies concerning the advancement of “International Mobile Telecommunications’ technology” (IMT2030), also called the sixth generation of mobile networks (6G).

This initiative presents a proactive approach to the evolving landscape of International Mobile Telecommunications (IMT), focusing on detailed technical specifications to enhance mobile system functionality and performance. It aims to bridge the gap between current communication services and future requirements, fostering a digitally integrated and interconnected way of life. The roadmap's release follows decisions made during the Radiocommunication Assembly 2023, endorsing the development of standards for the sixth generation of IMT.

Majed Sultan Al Mesmar, Director-General of TDRA, emphasized the alignment of the 6G Roadmap with the UAE's futuristic directives, including the UAE Centennial 2071 and 'We the UAE 2031' vision, aiming to establish the country as a hub for the new economy. The initiative also supports environmental sustainability, digital inclusion, and enhances security and privacy measures, aligning with UN SDGs.

The report outlines TDRA's commitment to introducing the sixth generation of telecommunications networks, aiming to unlock new use cases and enhance user experiences. Mohammed Al Ramsi emphasizes collaboration to maintain the UAE's global leadership in technology. The roadmap focuses on advancing infrastructure with 6G capabilities like integrated sensing and AI, prioritizing environmental sustainability, bridging the digital divide, and strengthening privacy and security measures.

The plan outlines 6G's capabilities in AI, network virtualization, and sensing, alongside enhanced 5G features. It anticipates global transmission of human senses with low latency, revolutionizing robotics and healthcare. TDRA's roadmap includes forming a committee, collaborating with global bodies, and conducting experiments with Khalifa University leading. TDRA will facilitate experiments and spectrum allocation, aiming for UAE's 6G adoption before 2030. UAE's pioneering 5G deployment in 2018 sets the stage for transitioning to 6G by 2030, with ongoing development of advanced 5G networks.

The UAE's 6G Roadmap aligns seamlessly with global sustainability goals, actively working towards the reduction of carbon dioxide emissions and energy consumption across diverse industries. This ambitious undertaking reflects the UAE's dedication to upholding its leading position in telecommunications innovation, aiming to deliver high-quality, smart, and secure connectivity to benefit both, its society and economy.
