TikTok has announced the rollout of new direct messaging features, including the highly anticipated group chat functionality, which supports up to 32 users. This update allows users aged 16 and over to share and discuss TikTok videos with friends and family directly within the app, eliminating the need to switch to other messaging platforms like WhatsApp or Messenger.

Starting a group chat on TikTok is simple. Users can tap the Chat button at the top of the inbox and select the people they want to include or tap "Start Group Chat" when sharing a post with multiple recipients.

TikTok has designed these group chats with safety in mind, especially for younger users. Group chats are not available to users aged 13-15, and those in the 16-17 age bracket can only join a chat if they have at least one mutual friend in the group. Additionally, if they create a group, they must manually approve any new members.

Owner ByteDance has noted that the group chat feature is not yet available in all regions, but further details on its wider rollout have not been provided.

In addition to group chats, TikTok is introducing stickers to direct messages, allowing users to express themselves more visually. Users can now create and upload custom stickers to share with others on the platform.
