Dubai is set to welcome branches of India’s premier educational institutions, further cementing the strong bilateral ties between the UAE and India.
Indian Minister of Industry and Supply, Piyush Goyal, announced on Tuesday that top-tier institutes including the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) and the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) will soon establish campuses in Dubai.
“Today, we decided that we will soon have an Indian Institute of Management in Dubai. I am also looking forward very soon to launching the Indian Institute of Foreign Trade in Dubai,”
Goyal shared during a media event, highlighting the move as a reflection of the growing partnership between the two nations.
The IIMs, which have campuses across 21 cities in India, are globally recognised for their academic excellence and leadership training. Several of them regularly rank among the top 100 business schools worldwide. Their alumni include influential global figures such as former PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyi and ex-RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan.
IIFT, a public business school headquartered in New Delhi and established in 1963, is known for its strong focus on international business and trade, aligning perfectly with Dubai’s global commercial landscape. Specific details regarding the locations and timelines of the Dubai campuses are expected to be disclosed in the near future.
This announcement comes on the heels of another milestone in India-UAE educational collaboration. In 2024, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) inaugurated its first-ever overseas campus in Abu Dhabi. Operated under IIT Delhi, the campus currently offers two undergraduate programmes in computer science and energy engineering for the 2024–2025 academic year.
The expansion of India’s elite academic institutions into the UAE marks a strategic step toward creating more cross-border education opportunities and nurturing global talent within the region.
