The UAE has made remarkable strides in its infrastructure sector throughout 2024, unveiling a host of projects that align with the nation's economic growth ambitions and sustainability goals.

A major milestone was achieved with the commencement of commercial operations for Unit 4 at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, completing its full delivery. The plant now generates 40TWh of clean, carbon-free electricity annually, meeting 25% of the UAE's energy needs.

To bolster water security and climate resilience, the Executive Committee of the Initiatives of His Highness the President approved an infrastructure package featuring nine new dams and embankments, capable of storing 8 million cubic meters of water. The package includes nine water canals spanning 9 kilometers, with completion expected in 19 months.

In Abu Dhabi, a budget of AED66 billion was allocated for 144 projects, including housing, education, tourism, and transport upgrades. Key highlights include the 25-km median islands project, which will improve traffic flow, and new bridges on key roads.

Dubai announced transformative ventures, including a new AED128 billion passenger terminal at Al Maktoum International Airport, poised to become the world’s largest. Additional initiatives include the AED30 billion "Tasreef" rainwater drainage network, the expansion of Dubai Exhibition Centre, and a new bridge reducing Hessa Street travel times significantly.

Sharjah prioritized green initiatives with upgraded irrigation systems and completed 9.5 km of industrial road networks. Ajman, Umm Al Qaiwain, Ras Al Khaimah, and Fujairah also advanced infrastructure with projects enhancing water distribution, road networks, and logistics capabilities.

These initiatives underscore the UAE’s commitment to sustainable development and future-ready infrastructure.
