The General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has announced a groundbreaking achievement for the UAE’s aviation sector, with the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre surpassing one million air traffic movements in 2024.

This milestone highlights the UAE’s strategic role as a global aviation hub, driven by its advanced infrastructure, strategic location, and operational excellence.

Abdullah bin Touq Al Marri, UAE Minister of Economy and Chairman of the GCAA, hailed the achievement as a reflection of the UAE’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in aviation.

“This milestone is not just a numerical achievement but a testament to our dedication to enhancing the aviation sector, a cornerstone of our national economy,”

he stated. With over 20% growth in air traffic over the past two years, the UAE continues to demonstrate its capacity to handle increasing demand.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General of the GCAA, emphasized the team’s hard work and innovative approach.

“Exceeding one million air traffic movements is the result of years of planning, collaboration, and dedication. With a 10.3% growth rate in 2024, we remain committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and efficiency,”

he said.

The historic one-millionth movement was marked on December 22 with the arrival of Emirates Flight 305 from Shanghai. This milestone underscores the Sheikh Zayed Air Navigation Centre’s adoption of cutting-edge technologies and sustainable practices, in line with the UAE’s “We the UAE 2031” vision and “The Year of Sustainability.”

As the aviation sector rebounds globally, the UAE’s advancements in airspace management serve as a benchmark for the industry, further solidifying its position as a global leader in air transport.
