The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Ports Security has allowed UAE residents stranded abroad with expired residency permits to return to the country without penalties, offering relief to those unable to travel due to regional airspace closures.

The decision applies to residents whose permits expired on or after 28 February 2026 while they were outside the UAE. Many had been unable to return because of flight suspensions and disruptions in regional air travel.

Authorities said the measure will remain in effect for one month from 28 February, allowing affected residents to enter the UAE until 31 March 2026 without applying for a new entry visa. The temporary policy also enables them to regularise their residency status without incurring fines linked to the delay.

Officials said the move responds to exceptional travel disruptions that prevented residents from renewing their permits on time. By easing re-entry procedures, the government aims to support residents who were caught outside the country due to circumstances beyond their control.

The Authority added that the decision reflects the UAE’s humanitarian approach during emergencies and is intended to help residents resume their lives and continue contributing to the country’s development.

It also supports family reunification under the national initiative known as the Year of the Family UAE initiative, allowing heads of households and family members whose permits expired abroad to return and rejoin their families.

Authorities confirmed that emergency response and business continuity plans remain in place across airports and operational centres to ensure smooth procedures for travellers affected by flight delays or rescheduling. Residents have been advised to follow official channels for updates and travel guidance.
