The UAE continues to lead as one of the nations with the lowest tuberculosis (TB) rates, a result of the country’s robust health policies and collaborative efforts to prevent the spread of the disease.

In a statement ahead of World Tuberculosis Day on March 24, the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MoHAP) highlighted its comprehensive strategy to tackle TB through early detection, consistent vaccination, and a well-coordinated health system.

The UAE’s success is attributed to standardized surveillance protocols, an advanced monitoring system, and a reliable supply of TB medications. The country has also emphasized proactive training for healthcare professionals and the introduction of rapid diagnostic tests, modern treatments, and digital technology to further strengthen its healthcare system.

The ministry’s initiatives include the prevention of TB through newborn vaccination, as well as a screening process for visa applicants before and after their arrival in the UAE. Dr. Hussain Abdul Rahman Al Rand, Assistant Under-Secretary for the Public Health Sector, stated that the ministry’s commitment to controlling TB is reflected in the ongoing collaboration with strategic partners and continuous efforts to ensure early diagnosis.

As part of World TB Day celebrations, the ministry has organized interactive awareness sessions in multiple languages, with social media campaigns spreading crucial information about the importance of early detection and prevention. National landmarks have also been lit up in red to mark the occasion.

In line with global TB elimination goals, the UAE is aligned with the Eastern Mediterranean region’s strategy to eradicate TB by 2030, committing to sustained investment in research and innovation to improve public health.
