The third session of the Political Consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the UAE and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan took place in Abu Dhabi, marking another milestone in the strengthening of bilateral relations.
Co-chaired by Lana Nusseibeh, UAE Assistant Minister for Political Affairs, and Yalchin Refiyev, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan, the meeting was attended by key officials, including Abdulla Balalaa, UAE Assistant Minister for Energy and Sustainability Affairs, and Mohammed Alblooshi, UAE Ambassador to Azerbaijan.
During the discussions, both parties underscored the importance of deepening bilateral and multilateral cooperation, particularly in the face of global challenges. Nusseibeh highlighted the remarkable progress in trade, investment, energy, climate action, and other areas. The UAE also reiterated its full support for Azerbaijan's presidency of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) in 2026.
A significant outcome of the meeting was the recognition of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership agreement, which is expected to further boost the already strong economic ties, with non-oil trade between the nations soaring from USD 979 million in 2022 to USD 1.64 billion in 2023.
The consultation also reviewed the UAE-Azerbaijan-Brazil trilateral partnership under the “Troika” framework, aimed at ensuring continued progress on climate initiatives and the implementation of outcomes from COP28 and COP29.
On regional matters, both sides expressed concern over the situation in the Gaza Strip, Lebanon, and Syria, reaffirming their commitment to supporting humanitarian efforts and the pursuit of a lasting peace process in the Middle East, including the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in line with international law.
