The Brussels Times has affirmed that the partnership between the United Arab Emirates and Belgium has become a strategic necessity, extending beyond symbolism to address security, economic, and humanitarian priorities.

Amid global instability and regional crises, the publication highlighted that the alliance is increasingly vital for advancing shared interests in trade, investment, innovation, and diplomacy. Both nations have emerged as pragmatic actors focused on stability and consensus-building rather than confrontation.

Belgium’s humanitarian role in Gaza has underscored this alignment. Through Operation Cerulean Skies 2, the country has delivered 190 tonnes of aid by air, becoming the second-largest contributor after the UAE. Brussels’ participation reflects a convergence with the Emirates’ proactive approach to crisis response.

The partnership is also being institutionalised. In May, Dubai Humanitarian signed an agreement with the EU’s humanitarian arm to enhance coordination in supply chains and emergency preparedness, witnessed by Belgian and EU officials.

Economic ties remain strong, with bilateral trade reaching €7 billion in 2023 and Belgian firms leaving a lasting mark on landmark UAE projects. Future collaboration is expected in renewable energy, logistics, and digital innovation, as both nations prepare for a post-oil future.

The Brussels Times concluded that in an era of heightened division, the UAE and Belgium stand as consensus-builders, making their partnership not optional but essential for global stability.
