UAE and Brazil Strengthen Strategic Ties at G20 Leaders' Summit
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Brazil have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations during the G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brazil.
This year marks the 50th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two nations, celebrated by the meeting of UAE’s Crown Prince Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.
The leaders discussed cooperation in key sectors including renewable energy, innovation, agriculture, infrastructure, and trade. Two Memorandums of Understanding (MOUs) were signed: one to establish a joint investment mechanism in Brazil and another for joint cooperation in Africa. These agreements aim to boost bilateral trade, which surpassed USD 4 billion in 2023, and support ongoing negotiations for a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) with MERCOSUR.
Highlighting sustainability, the UAE pledged USD 100 million to Brazil's Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty initiative. Discussions also emphasized climate change cooperation, including preparations for Brazil’s COP30 Presidency in 2025 and the upcoming UN Water Conference co-hosted by the UAE in 2026. The UAE’s Masdar is set to deepen ties with Brazil's renewable energy sector.
The partnership extends beyond economics to humanitarian efforts, such as biodiversity projects in the Amazon and initiatives supporting indigenous communities. Both nations reaffirmed their dedication to international peace, tolerance, and adherence to international law, advocating for UN Security Council reforms and peaceful conflict resolution.
This meeting underscores the UAE and Brazil’s shared vision for a sustainable, innovative, and prosperous global future.
