The UAE and Canada have reached a significant aviation milestone after agreeing to expand air services under their bilateral Air Services Agreement, opening the door to increased passenger and cargo connectivity between the two countries.
The agreement was concluded during the ICAO Air Services Negotiation Event 2025 held in Punta Cana, Dominican Republic. It allows UAE national carriers additional weekly flight frequencies to destinations west of the Ontario–Manitoba border, addressing rising demand across key Canadian markets.
A major outcome of the negotiations is the granting of full fifth-freedom rights for all-cargo flights. This enables unrestricted cargo operations between the UAE and Canada, strengthening logistics links and supporting trade flows between the two economies.
The General Civil Aviation Authority described the development as a strategic step that reflects the depth of the UAE–Canada aviation partnership. The expanded access is expected to enhance air connectivity, support tourism growth, and create new opportunities for commercial cooperation.
Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director General of the GCAA, said the agreement highlights the importance of flexibility and coordination in international aviation frameworks. He noted that the additional frequencies will help UAE carriers meet growing passenger demand while reinforcing the country’s role as a global aviation hub.
The milestone also aligns with the UAE’s broader efforts to develop aviation infrastructure and services, positioning air transport as a key driver of economic growth and long-term bilateral cooperation with Canada.
