The UAE Ministry of Investment and Canada’s Department of Industry have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to enhance cooperation in digital infrastructure, focusing on data centres and artificial intelligence development.

Signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Evan Solomon, Canada’s Minister of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Innovation, the agreement aims to drive investment in advanced technology sectors and strengthen both countries’ positions in the global digital economy.

The partnership seeks to exchange expertise, foster joint projects, and promote collaboration between public and private sectors in both nations. It also includes provisions for the formation of joint working groups to coordinate initiatives, ensure confidentiality, and protect intellectual property throughout the partnership.

Officials from both countries described the MoU as a strategic step toward sustainable digital transformation. Alsuwaidi said the agreement reflects the UAE’s commitment to innovation and to expanding opportunities in high-growth sectors such as cloud computing, machine learning, and data analytics. Solomon noted that the partnership builds on Canada’s strong AI ecosystem and the UAE’s leadership in digital transformation, positioning both nations to advance responsible growth in digital industries.

The collaboration aligns with the UAE Vision 2031 and its Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, reinforcing the country’s ambition to become a global hub for data-driven innovation. It also builds on robust economic ties, with trade between the UAE and Canada reaching US$2.4 billion in 2024.

The agreement is expected to accelerate investment in digital infrastructure, promote renewable energy integration, and strengthen the foundations for sustainable and inclusive technological progress across both economies.
