In a move to reinforce global humanitarian cooperation, Sultan Mohammed Al Shamsi, Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Development and International Organisations, met with Xavier Castellanos Mosquera, Under-Secretary-General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), at the Ministry’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The high-level meeting focused on strengthening collaboration to ensure life-saving aid reaches the most vulnerable—particularly the sick, children, women, and the elderly. Both officials reaffirmed their shared commitment to addressing urgent humanitarian needs through coordinated, principled, and strategic action.

Al Shamsi underscored the UAE’s steadfast dedication to international humanitarian efforts and praised the IFRC’s global work in crisis-hit regions. He reiterated the UAE’s role as a key partner in enabling rapid and effective humanitarian responses. Castellanos, in turn, commended the UAE’s consistent engagement with the IFRC and highlighted the Emirates Red Crescent’s (ERC) growing contributions, especially in advancing emergency healthcare services.

As part of this deepening partnership, the ERC is looking to strengthen cooperation with the IFRC in capacity building for its emergency health systems, aiming to improve crisis response speed and effectiveness.

The discussion also covered current joint initiatives and explored future collaboration opportunities, particularly in emergency preparedness, response coordination, and sustainable aid delivery. Both sides emphasized the importance of neutrality and impartiality in humanitarian work and stressed the need for strong partnerships to address escalating global challenges.

The meeting reaffirmed the longstanding UAE-IFRC relationship and signaled a forward-looking agenda focused on innovation, collaboration, and shared humanitarian priorities.
