The UAE, in collaboration with the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), hosted a special session of the Women in Diplomacy and Renewables Talk initiatives today, marking the International Day of Clean Energy and IRENA's 16th anniversary.

Held at the DEWA Sustainability and Innovation Centre, the event underscored global commitments to universal clean energy access and the climate goals pledged during the UAE Consensus at COP28. The initiatives aim to advance gender equity in diplomacy and energy leadership, fostering inclusive dialogues to accelerate the global energy transition.

Key participants, including Permanent Representatives to IRENA, diplomats, and energy leaders, reflected on programme progress, shared best practices, and outlined strategies to boost gender equity and clean energy efforts ahead of COP30 in Belém, Brazil.

Dr. Amna bint Abdulla Al Dahak, UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, emphasized the critical role of gender inclusion in sustainable development, stating,

“Empowering women unlocks the full potential of the energy sector.”

IRENA Director-General Francesco La Camera highlighted the uneven global distribution of renewables, urging urgent action to address systemic barriers in the Global South. He called for investment and structural reforms to foster equitable renewable energy growth.

Dr. Nawal Al-Hosany, UAE Permanent Representative to IRENA, lauded the partnership's role in driving innovative solutions for climate and energy challenges.

The session concluded with a tour of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park, showcasing cutting-edge renewable energy technologies and reaffirming the UAE's leadership in sustainable energy innovation.
