The UAE General Secretariat of the National Anti-Money Laundering and Combatting Financing of Terrorism and Financing of Illegal Organisations Committee (GS-NAMLCFTC) and Italy’s Guardia di Finanza have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to bolster efforts against financial crime.
The agreement, signed during the 250th anniversary celebrations of the Italian Financial Police, marks a milestone in international cooperation aimed at tackling threats such as money laundering and tax evasion.
Hamid Saif Al Zaabi, General Secretary and Vice-Chair of GS-NAMLCFTC, and Lieutenant General Leandro Cuzzocrea, Chief of Staff of the Guardia di Finanza, officiated the signing.
Al Zaabi described the MoU as a "crucial step" in strengthening bilateral ties, stating,
“This partnership sets a global benchmark for international cooperation, ensuring financial systems are safeguarded from illicit activities.”
He emphasized the UAE and Italy's shared success in arresting high-profile criminals and seizing illicit assets as evidence of the collaboration's impact.
Lt. Gen. Cuzzocrea hailed the UAE as a key partner, expressing confidence in the MoU’s potential to enhance operational cooperation.
“This agreement will strengthen our efforts to address the challenges of safeguarding legality and security in both countries,”
he remarked.
The partnership focuses on the exchange of expertise and best practices, international cooperation, and the extradition of criminals. It underscores a joint commitment to countering the destructive impact of financial crime on societies and economies.
This MoU solidifies the UAE and Italy’s position as global leaders in combating financial crime, sending a clear message of zero tolerance for illegal financial activities.
