The Central Bank of the UAE (CBUAE) and the Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo (CBK) have formalised a new partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding signed at the CBUAE headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The agreement was signed by CBUAE Governor Khaled Mohamed Balama and CBK Governor Dr. Ahmet Ismaili, marking the first such MoU between the two institutions.

Under the terms of the agreement, both central banks will strengthen coordination across supervisory and regulatory frameworks while exchanging expertise in key areas including financial technology, monetary policy, macroprudential measures and financial stability.

The MoU also covers financial consumer protection, financial inclusion, Islamic finance, banking supervision, payment systems oversight and the implementation of international prudential standards. Anti-money laundering and the combating of terrorism financing are also included within its scope.

Balama described the agreement as timely, noting that rapid transformation across the global financial sector demands stronger institutional channels between central banks and regulatory authorities. He added that the partnership aims to exchange insights and best practices that bolster the financial sector's readiness to navigate change.

For Kosovo, the agreement carries particular significance. Dr. Ismaili called it a historic milestone for the CBK, reflecting the institution's commitment to expanding international cooperation with reputable partners and advancing the modernisation of Kosovo's financial sector in line with global standards.

The MoU reflects a broader trend of the UAE deepening bilateral financial ties with emerging and developing economies, reinforcing Abu Dhabi's position as a hub for international regulatory collaboration.
