In a landmark move to strengthen bilateral ties, H.H. Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi, and Anwar Ibrahim, Prime Minister of Malaysia, witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to foster joint investment in artificial intelligence (AI).

The signing ceremony, held in the presence of H.H. Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Ruler of Abu Dhabi, signals a significant collaboration between the two nations under Malaysia's Madani Artificial Intelligence (MMAI) initiative.

The partnership aims to harness AI and advanced data analytics to enhance community safety, national security, and operational efficiencies. Key areas of cooperation include developing AI-driven national security systems, establishing high-performance computing data centres, and improving customs tax collection systems.

The MoU was signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, Malaysia's Minister of Home Affairs. Both sides emphasized the role of this collaboration in advancing technological innovation and addressing global challenges.

Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi expressed confidence that the partnership would enhance bilateral relations, benefiting both countries and their societies through improved operational efficiencies. Saifuddin Nasution Ismail highlighted Malaysia's ambitions to emerge as a leader in the global AI landscape, strengthened by the UAE's expertise in technological innovation.

This MoU follows the confirmation of the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement in October 2024 and reflects the growing economic ties between the UAE and Malaysia, with non-oil trade reaching US$2.5 billion in the first half of 2024—a 7% increase from the previous year. Malaysia remains a key trading partner for the UAE in Asia.
