The Digital School, an initiative under the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI), in collaboration with the Emirates Red Crescent (ERC), hosted a strategic 2-day workshop in Nouakchott, focusing on digitizing the education sector in Mauritania.

The event, led by Dr. Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the ERC and Board Member of the Digital School, gathered over 100 experts and officials from the UAE, Mauritania, and international organizations.

The workshop, attended by prominent figures such as Huda Babah, Mauritania’s Minister of Education, and Ahmed Salem Bede, Minister of Digital Transformation, aimed to shape a comprehensive strategy for digital education in Mauritania. The discussions emphasized enhancing the digital learning ecosystem, developing online and offline content, and improving teacher training and infrastructure.

Omar Sultan Al Olama, UAE Minister for AI and Digital Economy, stressed the UAE’s commitment to fostering digital transformation in Mauritania, underscoring the role of education in sustainable development. Dr. Al Mazrouei highlighted the deep-rooted ties between the two nations, reaffirming the UAE’s dedication to advancing educational initiatives globally.

Key announcements included the renovation of 21 digital learning spaces in Nouakchott schools, equipped with modern technology to support a future-ready education system. A new Teacher Training School was inaugurated, featuring smart classrooms and digital tools to empower educators.

The workshop culminated in a series of actionable recommendations, aiming to develop a national strategy for digital education transformation, align with international frameworks, and enhance collaboration across sectors to ensure equitable access to quality education.

The Digital School, launched in 2020, has already made significant strides, including digitizing Mauritania's curriculum and training over 600 digital educators. The initiative continues to impact over 500,000 students across 14 countries.
