Dr. Thani Al Zeyoudi, UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade, met with Hendrik Josef Wüst, Minister-President of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, to discuss expanding trade relations and cooperation in technology, advanced manufacturing, and the green economy.

The talks, followed by a business roundtable, aim to unlock new opportunities for mutual benefit.

North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s industrial powerhouse, boasts a GDP of $990 billion and houses 37 of the country’s top 100 corporations. Known for its expertise in digital technologies, AI, and smart manufacturing, the region is increasingly focusing on the green economy, including water management and agri-tech innovations. These initiatives align closely with the UAE's growth objectives.

The meeting underscored areas of potential collaboration, including Emirati investments in North Rhine-Westphalia’s ammonia value chain and the development of hydrogen as renewable energy. Dr. Thani highlighted that the UAE’s free-trade network offers North Rhine-Westphalia seamless access to key markets in Asia and Africa, fostering further economic growth.

Bilateral trade between the UAE and Germany reached $13.8 billion in 2024, marking a 5.4% increase from the previous year. The UAE is also committing over $1.2 billion in investments across Germany. With the UAE’s push to negotiate a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement with the EU, collaboration between the two regions is poised for continued expansion.

The discussions reflect the UAE’s commitment to strengthening its relationship with Germany, ensuring a future of shared economic success in emerging industries.
