UAE and Philippines Strengthen Cultural Ties with New MoU
The UAE Ministry of Culture and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts of the Republic of the Philippines have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to deepen cultural cooperation and mutual understanding between the two nations.
The agreement seeks to enrich cultural dialogue, preserve national identities, and foster collaboration across various fields, including arts, heritage, and education. The MoU outlines provisions for exchanging cultural information and promoting shared interests in language, literature, and archival practices. It also emphasizes training programs, exhibitions, and exploring historical manuscripts, such as Jawi texts in the Spanish Records Collection at the Philippines' National Archives.
Sheikh Salem bin Khaled Al Qassimi, UAE Minister of Culture, highlighted the significance of the partnership, stating,
“This MoU strengthens cultural cooperation...focusing on arts, education, human values, and future visions for joint cultural work.”
He reaffirmed the UAE's commitment to celebrating diversity and fostering cultural collaboration.
Key initiatives under the MoU include translating books into Tagalog, English, and Arabic, hosting exhibitions, and organizing intercultural events like theatre, music, poetry readings, and folklore performances. The agreement also addresses the protection and repatriation of cultural property, intellectual property rights, and support for creative industries.
This partnership underscores the shared commitment of the UAE and the Philippines to promoting cultural diversity, preserving heritage, and enhancing bilateral relations.
