The Ministry of Energy and Infrastructure (MoEI) and Korea’s Ministry of Environment convened the 7th Joint Operation Committee for Water Resource Cooperation to share advancements in water management technologies and foster bilateral collaboration.

The meeting, held under the co-chairmanship of Sharif Al Olama, Undersecretary for Energy and Petroleum Affairs at MoEI, and Seunghwan Lee, Director-General for Water Use Policy Bureau, highlighted both nations’ commitment to tackling global water challenges.

Al Olama emphasized the UAE’s strides in water management despite its arid climate.

"Water is essential for life, ecosystems, and economies. The UAE Water Security Strategy 2036 ensures sustainable and secure water access while addressing food and energy security,”

he said. He underscored the UAE-Korea partnership as a model for achieving sustainable water and energy goals through innovation, research, and knowledge sharing.

Seunghwan Lee reflected on the partnership's progress since the 2015 signing of a water industry collaboration MoU.

“Our seven meetings have facilitated joint initiatives, and I hope this session continues to demonstrate the effectiveness of Korea’s water management technologies,”

he stated.

The meeting featured UAE presentations on future projects, including smart water network management and strategies for handling surface water, flash floods, and dams. Korean experts showcased floating photovoltaic technologies and early warning systems for urban flooding.

Both sides aim to build on these discussions to drive sustainable water solutions and address global climate challenges.
