The UAE and Uzbekistan have formalised a new strategic partnership aimed at accelerating the sustainable development and modernisation of Uzbekistan’s mining sector, reinforcing growing economic ties between the two nations.

The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Mohamed Hassan Alsuwaidi, UAE Minister of Investment, and Jamshid Khodjaev, Deputy Prime Minister of Uzbekistan. The agreement sets the foundation for cooperation across the entire mining value chain, from exploration and resource development to downstream manufacturing and value-added processing.

Under the MoU, both governments will work closely with regulatory authorities, state-owned investment entities, and private sector partners to identify investment opportunities and structure financing solutions. These include foreign direct investment and public-private partnerships designed to mobilise capital, technical expertise, and advanced technologies to improve productivity and global competitiveness.

The agreement also places strong emphasis on upgrading critical infrastructure supporting the mining sector. Priority areas include power generation, renewable energy integration, grid modernisation, water systems, and logistics networks. Alongside physical infrastructure, the partnership promotes digitalisation, innovation, and responsible governance to ensure long-term resilience and sustainability.

Alsuwaidi said the agreement reflects the UAE’s commitment to building strategic international partnerships that support sustainable growth and long-term economic value creation. Khodjaev described the MoU as a key step toward responsible mineral development, stronger governance frameworks, and sustainable industrial growth.

Economic cooperation between the two countries continues to expand. UAE investments in Uzbekistan reached $1.3 billion in 2024, including $700 million in renewable energy projects, with more than $4 billion in joint initiatives currently in development.
