The United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the Socialist Republic of Vietnam have officially upgraded their diplomatic ties to a Comprehensive Partnership.
This historic step, announced during the official visit of Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to the UAE, marks a new chapter in the relationship that has evolved since 1993, with a strong foundation of mutual respect and cooperation.
The Comprehensive Partnership framework aims to foster collaboration across various domains, from foreign affairs to trade, energy, and cultural exchange. In diplomatic and security matters, both countries are set to increase high-level exchanges and establish new mechanisms for defense and judicial cooperation. The UAE and Vietnam are also committed to promoting peace and stability in regional and international forums, including ASEAN and the GCC.
On the economic front, the nations are working towards boosting bilateral trade to $20 billion and increasing investments in oil, renewable energy, digital transformation, and agriculture. Notably, the UAE will support Vietnam's plans to develop the Vietnam International Financial Center in Ho Chi Minh City, while also investing in Vietnam's Halal industry.
The energy sector remains a key focus, with both sides emphasizing green transition initiatives. The UAE will provide Vietnam with energy expertise, particularly in renewable resources, as part of the "Just Energy Transition Partnership" (JET-P) established at COP28.
The partnership further extends to socio-cultural exchanges, including tourism, education, labor, and healthcare cooperation. This collaborative approach will see the introduction of visa exemptions and expanded support for Vietnamese workers in the UAE.
This milestone agreement reinforces the UAE and Vietnam's commitment to a prosperous, sustainable future built on mutual benefit and respect for international norms.
