The UAE General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has unveiled a new report underscoring the country’s success in building one of the world’s safest aviation systems, achieving near-perfect safety oversight scores and advancing with AI-powered regulatory tools.
The report, titled Building One of the World’s Safest Skies, revealed that the UAE earned a 98.86% score in the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Universal Safety Oversight Audit Programme, placing it among the highest globally. Officials credit this achievement to strict oversight, investment in human capital, and the adoption of cutting-edge technology aligned with international standards.
Under its National Aviation Safety Plan (2023–2026), the UAE has focused on reducing risks and strengthening safety culture. In 2024 alone, the GCAA carried out more than 900 oversight activities, from inspections and licensing to infrastructure and airspace reviews.
To further enhance efficiency, the authority introduced an AI-driven oversight system that uses real-time risk dashboards, automated audit prioritisation, and operator self-assessment portals. This innovation supports the country’s long-term vision “We the UAE 2031” while improving safety without expanding regulator staff.
Additional initiatives include the Voluntary Reporting System (VORSY) to encourage hazard reporting and a communicable disease control protocol jointly developed with the Ministry of Health and Prevention, recognised by ICAO and the WHO.
The UAE has also reinforced its role as a global aviation leader by hosting key industry events, including ICAO’s conferences and its own annual Aviation Safety Conference.
According to the GCAA, aviation safety in the UAE is more than compliance—it is treated as the foundation of operations, ensuring trust, protecting lives, and securing the future of air travel.
