The UAE Cabinet, led by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President, Prime Minister, and Ruler of Dubai, has approved the establishment of the Supreme Space Council.

This new entity will be a permanent body reporting directly to the Cabinet and will focus on the strategic development of the country’s space sector.

Chaired by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Minister of Defence, the Council will comprise key figures from various sectors. These include the Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, the Minister of Economy, and representatives from the UAE Space Agency and the Mohammed bin Rashid Space Centre.

The Council’s primary responsibilities will encompass the approval of public policies for space activities, defining national priorities, and promoting the country’s technological independence in the space sector. Additionally, the Council will focus on setting investment priorities, enhancing space security strategies, and fostering international partnerships.

As part of its mandate, the Council will review and approve legislation, policies, and national programmes related to space activities. The UAE Space Agency has been designated as the General Secretariat, providing both technical and administrative support to the Council.

This development reinforces the UAE’s commitment to positioning itself as a leader in space exploration and technological innovation on the global stage.
