The UAE Cybersecurity Council has called on residents and businesses to keep their digital devices regularly updated, warning that outdated systems are among the easiest targets for cyberattacks.
The Council said smartphones, laptops, web browsers, routers, and smart home devices face heightened risks when left unpatched, particularly on open networks. It stressed that evolving cyber threats exploit vulnerabilities in older software to spread malware, steal data, and breach networks.
The Council advised enabling automatic updates across all devices to ensure continuous protection. It also highlighted that most cyberattacks exploit known flaws that could have been fixed through timely updates.
Experts recommend additional precautions such as reviewing privacy settings, monitoring unusual device behaviour, and ensuring security patches are installed promptly. The Council described updates as “digital shields” that play a vital role in safeguarding systems from ever-changing threats.
