The UAE is accelerating its leadership in the global transition to clean energy, launching and financing a wide range of solar power projects across multiple continents in 2025.

National companies led by Masdar and Global South Utilities (GSU) are spearheading initiatives in Asia, Africa, and Europe, reinforcing the country’s role in advancing renewable energy and reducing carbon emissions.

Masdar has expanded its portfolio with acquisitions and partnerships in Spain, Indonesia, and Saudi Arabia. In Spain, it acquired nearly half of four solar plants totaling 446 megawatts, while in Indonesia it signed agreements to develop floating solar projects, including a major plant at the Jatigede Dam. In Saudi Arabia, Masdar and partners closed financing for the 2-gigawatt Al Sadawi solar project and signed a long-term deal with Misk City to deliver sustainable power.

GSU has also advanced projects in Africa and the Middle East. Highlights include a 50-megawatt solar plant in Madagascar with battery storage, a $220 million industrial solar complex in Egypt, the expansion of solar power in Yemen, and new plants in the Central African Republic and Comoros.

At the start of the year, the UAE signed a tripartite partnership with Italy and Albania to develop renewable projects, including solar and wind, with power exports planned for Italy.

Through these initiatives, the UAE is strengthening its position as a global clean energy hub while supporting countries in meeting their sustainability and energy access goals.
