The UAE has emerged as the largest destination for Egypt’s non-oil exports in 2025, underscoring deepening trade ties and reinforcing the Emirates’ position as a key regional gateway for Egyptian goods.

Egypt’s Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, Hassan El Khatib, said the milestone reflects strong bilateral economic relations and growing demand for Egyptian products across the UAE market. The development comes amid a broader improvement in Egypt’s external trade performance over the past year.

According to El Khatib, Egypt’s non-oil exports rose by 17 percent in 2025 to reach $48.57 billion. Imports stood at $83.01 billion, while the country’s trade deficit narrowed by 9 percent year on year to $34.45 billion, signalling a more balanced trade outlook.

High-value sectors played an increasingly important role in export growth. Gold exports surged to $7.6 billion in 2025, highlighting the rising contribution of refined and value-added products to Egypt’s export portfolio.

The UAE’s role as a major logistics, re-export, and consumption hub has been central to this expansion, providing Egyptian exporters with access to regional and global markets.

Looking ahead, El Khatib said Egypt is targeting a significant expansion of its export base, with ambitions to raise annual exports to $145 billion. The strategy focuses on improving competitiveness, diversifying export products, and strengthening trade partnerships, particularly with strategic markets such as the UAE.
