The UAE Food Bank has launched a major Ramadan humanitarian campaign aimed at delivering eight million meals to beneficiaries in the UAE and abroad, reinforcing the nation’s commitment to food security, sustainability, and charitable giving during the Holy Month.
Introduced under the directives of Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, the initiative seeks to transform surplus food into structured humanitarian support while reducing food waste through coordinated community and institutional efforts.
Titled Bank of Goodness in the Month of Giving, the campaign is part of the wider work of UAE Food Bank, operating under the umbrella of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives. The programme will roll out through five integrated Ramadan initiatives designed to serve different segments of society while promoting responsible consumption and environmental sustainability.
Key initiatives include Charity Fridge, which places refrigerators in residential neighbourhoods to collect surplus iftar and suhoor meals, and My Home Without Waste, an awareness programme encouraging households to adopt practical food preservation habits. Meer Al Khair will distribute essential food parcels to families in need, while Zabeel Iftar will host collective meals for workers at Zabeel Park to promote social solidarity during Ramadan.
In collaboration with the National Food Loss and Waste Initiative Ne’ma, the campaign will also introduce Recycle Re-life, a system that redistributes edible surplus food from hotels and converts non-edible waste into agricultural compost through sustainable recycling solutions.
Manal bin Yaroof, Head of the Executive Team at the UAE Food Bank, said the campaign reflects the UAE leadership’s vision of embedding humanitarian values into sustainable development while expanding support to vulnerable communities worldwide.
The initiative aligns with the UAE National Food Security Strategy 2051 and aims to strengthen partnerships across public and private sectors, increase volunteer participation, and reduce carbon emissions through improved surplus food management systems.
