The UAE Food Bank has launched the "United in Giving" initiative, aimed at providing seven million meals to those in need throughout Ramadan.
Under the guidance of H.H. Sheikha Hind bint Maktoum bin Juma Al Maktoum, wife of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the initiative seeks to promote sustainable food management, reduce wastage, and foster community participation in charitable efforts.
This humanitarian initiative comprises three core sub-programmes: 'Blessing Baskets,' 'Zabeel Iftar,' and 'Surplus of Good.' The 'Blessing Baskets' initiative will distribute over 200,000 meals daily through food donations, parcels, and surplus meals. 'Zabeel Iftar' will provide Iftar meals for more than 3,000 workers, while 'Surplus of Good' will raise awareness about innovative methods to repurpose surplus food.
Marwan Ahmed bin Ghalita, Vice Chairman of the UAE Food Bank, emphasized the initiative’s alignment with the UAE’s values of generosity and compassion.
“This initiative is a call to action for all sectors of society to unite and contribute to alleviating suffering, strengthening social solidarity, and minimizing food waste,”
he said.
The UAE Food Bank plans to engage in strategic partnerships through 12 cooperation agreements with government, private, and humanitarian entities, advancing their 2023–2027 strategic plan. This includes collaborations with international food networks, support for local farmers, and reducing food waste on a global scale.
In addition to direct meal provision, the ‘Surplus of Good’ programme, in partnership with Fatafeat TV, will produce six episodes across five languages, showcasing creative ways to repurpose surplus food into nutritious meals.
